An idyllic country house, once the home of the long-separated spouses Vera and Uli, is scheduled to be cleared out. But the encounter there is not one on one; the two new partners of the estranged couple enliven the scene. Although the conversations start off in a casual, tongue-in-cheek manner, they soon re-open old wounds; the past is painfully analyzed and the present is torn to pieces. Rarely has the evanescence of love in couples’ relationships been so keenly observed as in the drama "Liebesjahre."

Director Matti Geschonneck zooms in to depict the study of a relationship and at the same time presents a didactic play on love. This film is carried by four magnificent actors, who are distinguished by their exceptional lust for life and penchant for acting.
